The Friday-Sunday 18-20 February 2011 2nd Toronto Bachata Festival got an early start Sunday with the first Toronto Bachata Festival Competition Semi-Finals at Dovercourt House.
Eleven couples from the four heats held through October 2010 - with one couple from Ottawa's salsaole.ca making that five hour drive - vied for four places in the Final being held Sunday 20 February 2011.
Judging criteria included connection between the partners; Bachata timing; technical execution; showmanship; a limit of five tricks with a strong nod to Bachata's Dominican Barrio origins. The Judges included: Latin Groove Productions' Oscar; DanceToLive's Paula; iFreeStyle.ca's Caryl; CityDanceCorps' Estelle; Steps' Jennifer; P.O.S.E; Giovanni Torres.
The four who advanced to the finals and won a full pass to the 2nd Toronto Bachata Festival are: Pavlo & Ana; Angelo & Kathy; Orlando & Mira; Edgar & Chantal.
Dmitry went out with a bang before journeying to Hong Kong and his Fiancee, dancing a Hungarian Rhapsody with Tania Wong. The fun continued with Dmitry's Steps' compadres giving him a seven minute last dance before he journeys to Hong Kong and his fiancee.
