Here are a few of the some 500 people who, crowded into 6 Degrees Sunday night for the Fourth Toronto Dance Salsa Amateur Salsa Competition, cheered on the competitors, applauded the performances and danced an early spring Sunday night away!

Our favorite MC George kept the evening moving at a breakneck pace... And the audience was treated a hatless moment as he swapped out a German Jager hat for his trademark fedora. Staging the competitors at such a rate, there was not time for the judges to muse or collaborate on a competitor - perhaps the best way for evaluation.
The competitors all danced to the same tune and were evaluated various criteria: on how they worked the music or musicality, timing not only to the beat, but were turns and turn patterns finished on time, not late or early; technical aspects as in how cleanly the turn patterns were executed, lead and follow; showmanship as in how the couple brought the audience into their routine.
Right after the competitors, five performances - pictures and short video coming - gave the judges time to tally the scores. No order was given for the five couples who are advancing to the final round on Sunday 20 June at Six Degrees.
The five finalist couples won passes to the upcoming Detroit Salsa Festival.
The finalists for the Third Toronto Dance Salsa Competition are: Maysa & Omid; Jamie & Steve; Joanna & Orlando; Elise & Olivier; Julia & Miroslav.
They have about a month to choreograph their own winning routine and become the winner of the Fourth Toronto Dance Salsa Amateur Competition.
