It was standing room Monday at Alleycatz as Frank celebrated seven years of his Alleycatz Mondays.
With Miguel, Frank has made Alleycatz Mondays Toronto's early week destination; a long cry from the Embassy Cafe days way back in 1999.
Frank, usually the one with surprises himself was blindsided by Sharon & Mike's "SalsaTO Meets Bollywood" performed to Jai Ho in barefeet with bells.
The biggest surprise of the evening was Miguel proposing to his long time companion. Standing with Frank, Miguel acknowledged seven years of fun and asked her to step out into the middle of the room so he could demonstrate a turn pattern. Well, Miguel demonstrated his 'pattern' on bended knee - with a lovely ruby, diamond and emerald ring. The pictures say it all. Everyone wishes you only the best of fortunes.
A Zumba demo, an enthusiastic Zumba demo set to merengue rounded the evening's entertainment. But wait. What night of Frank's entertainment would not be complete without a dancing girl. ... And that belly dancer.
Monday was also the debut of Tropicanada, a full orchestra fronted by Henry Vivel. Still nascent, they played one enthusiastic set that kept people moving. Expect to see more from this interesting group of musicians very soon.
