As the city's noise and rush faded and the escalator took them down and down in the Sheraton Centre Friday night, sounds of salsa rose.
Vendors selling shoes, advertising venues, other Conventions and Congresses, clothing, shoes shoes shoes tempted each and every one heading to the Grand ballroom and Friday's show.
Almost on the stroke of 9:00pm. the lights dimmed and Jennifer Aucoin strode to the middle of the stage. The 7th Canada Salsa Congress had begun!
The crowd cheered as Albert Torres was invited on the stage. "The best Congress in the World! give a hand to Jennifer," Albert Torres exclaimed to the applause.
Torres took a moment to mention that 500 of the best dancers in the world, including the Canada Salsa Congress Competition World Qualifier first and runner-up couples were hoping to compete before 2500 people in December 2009 for the 4th World Salsa Championships and an ESPN audience.
After thanking NYC's DJ Henry Knowles for playing second banana, Albert introduced Montreal's Genesis Men's Troupe and strode off the stage.
Showtime!
A little later on, after Carribean Latin Groove's performance, feathers flew as Lance the man took the broom to the stage, catching the last traces of Linda's feathery bustle.
Friday's performers included: Genesis Men's Troupe; Rafael & Vanesa; Descarga; Mambo Bravo; Annie & Philippe; Latin Groove; Go Dance Mambo; Darius & Limor; Toca Dance; Steps; Korikoa; Mambo Mosiac; Chilital; Dance to Live; Go Salsa; Franklin & Maranda; iFreeStyle.ca; Latin Energy Kids; Latin Groove Teens; Luis & Anya; Comomango; Nelson & Veronica; Raza.

Editor's Notes:
Stage Right and part of Stage Centre lighting was not compatable for photography. Apologies to performers who were on those parts of the stage.
About 1000 pictures were taken during the shows each evening. Keep coming back for the additions as more pictures are edited and added.
