Salsa and dance and fun has moved to or returned to Queen Street West with the opening of City Dance Corps's new studio at 489 Queen Street W. 3rd floor between Spadina and Augusta.
Apparently City Dance Corps' new studio is literally in the same building and on the same floors of an old 1920s and 1930s Toronto nightclub and Prohibition dodging Speak Easy. This may bring a special something for their upcoming Friday 18 December 2009 Cotton Club Holiday party.
It's space - from the hike up the stairs to the reception area to the studios. The very high cathedral ceilings give a sense of soaring and reaching up and out and are most unusual for buildings on this stretch of Queen Street.
With two studios over two floors, and a rehearsal/warm-up studio ajoining the Studio 2, City Dance Corps is well placed to handle classes of almost any size. And the wide planked deeply stained wood floor is something special.
An observation gallery overlooking Studio 2 and the practice studio is a choreographer's dream as a routine or show can be seen from a unique perspective. A large woman's washroom/changeroom - with showers, and space to 'get ready' is almost unheard of.
Sunday's Open House gave visitors and the curious a sample of Hip Hop, Bollywood, Salsa, and Hollywood.
