The line-up snaked up the stairs and to the street Tuesday as Spanish tourists flooded Ba Ba Luu. Word must have reached Spain and the Eurpoean Union that Ba Ba Luu is Yorkville's latin destination.
After a very crowded Casino Rueda class, the night got down to business as Steps' B&Bs and the Red Rocket Rumberos squared off - Rueda'd off - in the Casino Rueda contest.
It was very intense as both groups, bringing large posses of cheering supporters, were there to win.
DJ Billy Bryans played 2-3 minute Cuban music sequences for both groups who passionately danced and showcased some imaginative patterns.
When the dust settled, the last notes from a dance-off died away, the applause stopped ringing the ears, it was a deadlock as crowd support was split right down the middle. A disinterested third party finally determined the winning group, who will open for an October 2009 Pupy y Son Son return concert c/o of Sophie Giraud and Okokan Productions.
Casino Rueda is hard to photograph at ground level as the dancers face inward, so the evening's imagery - still & video was taken from ceiling level.
