Sunday Show"

"Allo ma bebe, ma petite femme de skonk" echoed through the house as Al "Pepe le Pew" & Edie "La Petite Chatte" gave a surprise second performance on the Canadian Salsa Congress closing night show.

Taking a page, well... swallowing the entire Looney Tunes catalogue, Pepe chased, turned, spun and dipped La Petite across the stage to a salsa beat as Pepe's plaintive pleas came through the soundtrack. While in turn, La Petite eluded, slam dipped, spun and flipped an amourous Pepe. When Pepe's tail rose as he was flirting, mayhem was a beat away.

The crowd cheered for more as Edie & Al scampered off the stage.

Sonia from Montreal added a touch of grace to the mayhem as she graciously played Emcee and gave David Melendez a break.

If there was one theme this week-end, it would be youth. Each and every night, very talented young girls & boys took the stage and gave their elders a good run for their money in terms of poise, technical promise and presence. Whether from the US, Puerto Rico, or Canada, show goers were treated to performances by Rhythmic Fire, Latin Spirit Kids, and some of the children from New Dimension.

The children were a big highlight to the night.

Not ceding everything to the children, Tito & Tamera gave a sizzling classic salsa display.

One of the Ottawa groups brought an urban touch to the evening as the women squeegee kids salsa'd and eluded and got caught and escaped a determined policeman trying to put the collar on them... Guess who won?

Almost at the end of the night, Al, Ismael & Company & a few from Rhythmic Fire gave David "Gomez Addams" Melendez a salsa send off worthy of an Oscar. One has to see and here salsa being danced to The Addams Family beat - complete with lyrics razzing David about his coffee as a huge cup of Timmy's "eh" was passed to him - to believe it. Mere pictures suffice not. The house broke apart in gales of laughter.

Duh-duh duh-duh Clap-clap!
Duh-duh duh-duh Clap-clap!
Duh-duh duh-duh! - Duh-duh duh-duh! - Duh-duh duh-duh! Clap-clap

David scratched his head at another Canadian icon, T "Oh" or to, that is the question? Was it tosala and salsato or T "oh" Salsa & Salsa T"oh". Only we Canadians know for sure.

All too soon it was over. The waning magic continued through to the dance following the social. People were dancing in the hallways, on the carpets, Super Mario was running through a routine as Dora captured it on tape. Last minute news, emails and numbers were exchanged with new friends.

People were grasping and capturing and trying to hold the moment as it was slipping through their fingers. When the bracelets came off, the spell was broken. Asleep until next year.
